St Anne's Update

Year 1

This week year 1 have been reading and looking at non-fiction texts. They have been writing their own reports about caring for a pet. Their writing was filled with formal connectives, joining words and interesting facts. We are all very impressed with the children’s motivation to write and they are increasingly becoming more independent writers.

In Geography, we have continued to learn about our local area. Next week the children will be making a junk model Notting Hill. It would be great if parents could send their child in with junk before Wednesday 1st. We can’t wait to see their creations.

In assembly this week we spoke about the importance of teamwork! Learning that together we can achieve more! This links to our Fox value – collaboration. Next week we will be looking out for children showing good teamwork skills.

Year 2
Year 2 have enjoyed continuing their work on arrays in numeracy this week. In today's lesson, they thought about all the different arrays they could use to make a chocolate box that holds 12 chocolates!

In literacy, the children have been jumping into character and pretending to be Fantastic Mr Fox and wrote a letter to Mr Rabbit inviting him to the great feast! The children learnt some really ambitious language (in a game of 'vocabulary bingo') which they used in their incredible letters.
We are all very happy excited to see the Fantastic Mr Fox show next week!

The children are really enjoying their hockey sessions and are developing some great skills!

Weekly theme:
You can make a difference!

This week every class watched a short video about how one action or one voice can make a difference. In class, the children discussed what things they could do at school, in lessons and in the playground to make a difference.  We thought about how our words and actions are powerful and that we can use them to inspire, encourage and support those around us.

Poetry Competition

As we have so many amazing poets in school, we have the opportunity to enter a poetry competition (for children aged 7-11), with the chance of having the winning poem published in a book! The theme is 'Once upon a dream' so the poem should be based on dreams - either one you have had or you can make one up! Let your imagination run wild and create a whole new dreamworld...

For more information see: https://www.youngwriters.co.uk/competitions/once-upon-a-dream/ or ask for an application form from Mrs Buchanan (3B). The deadline is the 17th February 2017
